Travel to the United States
Travelers who need to reach the AAG so that we can verify your registration may call 317-914-2495. This phone will be monitored during the registration hours posted at http://annualmeeting.aag.org/schedule.
When traveling to the AAG Annual Meeting, the U.S. may require visitors to obtain a visa. This process can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to complete - please be aware of specific application deadlines and requirements for your home country.
The AAG provides a formal invitation letter to help with the visa submission process. Click on the form on the right to open a PDF that you can fill out with your contact information, then save or print a copy for your records.
If you have already registered and would like your abstract and/or session title included in your invitation letter, please download this version.
Please direct any additional requests or questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Visa requirements often change and vary by country, so be sure to visit the U.S. State Department website for the latest information when planning your trip.

If you need a visa, be sure to apply early. We recommend applying three to four months before your date of travel to allow sufficient time to process your application.
Visa Waiver Program
Travelers entering the United States under the Visa Waiver Program need a valid ESTA approval. The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is a free, automated system used to determine the eligibility of visitors to travel to the United States under the VWP.

Additional tips and information about visa requirements are available from The National Academies International Visitors Office.
AAG continues to monitor issues that may affect travel to the U.S. We will help with resources on issues as they become available, but here are two examples of help provided leading up to and after the 2017 annual meeting in Boston:
• AAG Supporting International Travelers
• Administration Issues New Travel Ban; Order Blocked by Federal Judges
• AAG Condemns Trump Administration Travel Bans
• Multisociety Letter on Immigration
Developing Regions Membership Program
The AAG has long advocated interacting with and providing support to geographers and other colleagues from developing regions of the world. In this spirit we have established the Developing Regions Membership Program, through which eligible professionals may join the AAG at a deeply discounted rate.
